August 2024: Board of Supervisors Adopts the Environmental Justice Element

At its hearing on August 8, 2024, the Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to adopt the EJ Element as a new chapter of the Alameda County General Plan. As we move into the implementation phase, the Planning Department's next steps include:

  • Late 2024: Finalize EJ Element and publish; translate final EJ Element into Spanish; produce a summary of the EJ Element for translation into other threshold languages
  • Late 2024: Convene County agencies and engage residents and other partners to help inform implementation strategies and priorities and begin implementation
  • Summer 2025: Deliver first annual EJ Element implementation progress report to the Board Unincorporated Services Committee, the Planning Commission, the Eden Area MAC, and the Castro Valley MAC.

January 2024: Second Revised Draft Environmental Justice Element and Related CEQA Environmental Assessment Now Available

The Alameda County Planning Department is pleased to announce the release of the Second Revised Draft Environmental Justice Element (version dated January 2024). The Second Revised Draft Environmental Justice Element will be discussed as an action item at upcoming meetings of the Castro Valley MAC, the Eden Area MAC, the Board Unincorporated Services Committee, and the Planning Commission, where staff will be seeking a recommendation that the EJ Element be adopted by the Board of Supervisors. Please see our Engagement page for details about upcoming meetings and recordings of past meetings. Adoption of the EJ Element is anticipated for Spring 2024.
